Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Assessments in Brisbane
Guiding Families and Individuals on the Path to Understanding
Understanding an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosis can be life-changing. At Brisbane Wellbeing, we’re here to offer comprehensive, compassionate, and thorough ASD assessments for individuals of all ages. Our team of experienced psychologists and clinicians specialise in working with neurodiverse individuals, providing a supportive and professional environment that helps each client feel comfortable and respected.
What to Expect from Our ASD Assessments
Our ASD assessments are tailored to each individual’s unique needs and involve a combination of the following steps:
- Initial Consultation: We begin with an in-depth consultation to understand your concerns and gather background information.
- Comprehensive Testing: Using evidence-based assessment tools, we conduct standardised testing to assess social communication skills, repetitive behaviours, and sensory sensitivities.
- Clinical Observation and Interviews: For a holistic understanding, our assessments include interviews with family members, caregivers, and teachers (where appropriate).
- Feedback Session: After the assessment, we provide a clear, detailed report, and offer a feedback session to discuss the results and any recommended interventions.

Why Different Fees for Different Psychologists?
Typically, the more qualified and experienced the psychologist, the higher their rate.
- General Psychologists: They have completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology, usually with honours or a master’s in general psychology. They have finished their internship and are fully registered. You can receive a Medicare rebate for therapy sessions with a general psychologist.
- Clinical Psychologists: After completing studies and an internship in psychology, clinical psychologists undertake an additional master’s degree in clinical psychology and complete an extra internship in clinical psychology. This advanced training provides them with more knowledge and experience in handling mental health issues, which is why the Medicare rebate is higher for therapy sessions with clinical psychologists.
- Provisional Psychologists: These individuals have completed their studies and are undergoing an internship. They are registered with AHPRA under the condition of supervision by an experienced psychologist. Sometimes, provisional psychologists are experienced professionals from overseas who must redo their internship to become registered in Australia.
For assessments, seeing a provisional psychologist can be more cost-effective, as Medicare rebates are not available for assessments. The fee is lower, and the entire process is supervised by an experienced psychologist.
